- Do you know who owns the dog? If your neighbor is allowing his dog to roam in violation of a county requirement or municipal ordinance, here’s how to hold the owner responsible.
- If you don’t know the owner or can’t see a tag, request that the dog be impounded. To ensure that the officer can locate the dog upon arrival, confine the dog until then if you are able to safely do so. You may also have the option of bringing the animal in yourself if you can safely do so.

- If you witnessed or have information about abandonment, report animal cruelty.
- If a neighbor’s dog harms or kills chickens or other animals on your property, Alabama law holds the dog owner responsible for harming your livestock even if dog confinement is not required in the area.
